PhD Theses under preparation
Jasmine Dibben is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Exeter. Her thesis, Probing the dynamics of hydrothermal systems at polar active volcanic calderas and their role in volcanic unrest, is supervised by James Hickey (University of Exeter) and Adelina Geyer (GEO3BCN-CSIC).
Laura Sánchez Torres is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Barcelona / GEO3BCN-CSIC. Her thesis, Magma–crust interaction in monogenetic volcanic systems: Mineral markers as tools for petrological monitoring, is supervised by Helena Albert (University of Barcelona) and Adelina Geyer (GEO3BCN-CSIC).
Kyungmin Kim is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (since Autumn 2021), with defense expected in Summer 2026. Tarsilo Girona serves as sole supervisor.
Laure Brenot is currently pursuing her PhD at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (since Autumn 2022), with defense expected in Autumn 2026. Tarsilo Girona serves as co-supervisor.
PhD Theses completed
2026
Noé García-Martínez completed his PhD at the University of Alicante / GEO3BCN-CSIC in January 2026. His thesis, Quantification and modelling of gas transport in volcanic–hydrothermal systems and its relationship with geothermal anomalies detectable via satellite, was co-supervised by Tarsilo Girona.
2025
Daniela Cerda Muñoz deposited her PhD thesis at the University of Barcelona / GEO3BCN-CSIC on 30 September 2025. Her thesis, Assessment of risk perception and social vulnerability in the La Garrotxa monogenetic volcanic field, is supervised by Adelina Geyer Traver, Dario Pedrazzi and Xavier de Bolós (GEO3BCN-CSIC).
Oriol Vilanova Pagès completed his PhD at the University of Barcelona / GEO3BCN-CSIC on 15 December 2025 with the thesis Internal dynamics of hydrothermal systems in polar volcanic regions, supervised by Adelina Geyer and Helena Albert (Distinction: Excellent).
Antonio Polo Sánchez completed his PhD at the University of Salamanca / GEO3BCN-CSIC on 22 July 2025 with the thesis Exploring submarine Antarctic volcanism: Petrologic–geochemical study of Edifice C, Three Sisters, Orca and Gebra Seamount (Bransfield Strait, Antarctica), supervised by Antonio Miguel Álvarez-Valero and Adelina Geyer (Distinction: Excellent Cum Laude).
2024
Olaya Dorado García completed her PhD at the University of Barcelona / GEO3BCN-CSIC on 19 December 2024 with the thesis Modeling the eruptive and pre-eruptive dynamics of the Teide–Pico Viejo complex, supervised by Adelina Geyer (Distinction: Excellent Cum Laude).
Joaquín Hopfenblatt Hours completed his PhD at the University of Barcelona / GEO3BCN-CSIC on 4 May 2024 with the thesis Post-caldera volcanism of Deception Island (Antarctica): New insights from tephra studies and volcanic deposits of Port Foster Bay, supervised by Adelina Geyer and Meritxell Aulinas Juncà (Distinction: Excellent Cum Laude).
2023
Marta López Saavedra completed his PhD at the University of Barcelona / GEO3BCN-CSIC on the 25th of October 2023 with the thesis Multi-hazard assessment and risk management in volcanic islands supervised by Joan Martí Molist and Dario Pedrazzi (Distinction: Excellent Cum Laude and Award for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis).
